The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched 100 new non-AC buses, branded as ‘Ashwamedha Classic’, for point-to-point express service between Bengaluru and Mysuru. The buses were inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on February 5, 2024, in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
The new ‘Ashwamedha Classic’ buses have a height of 3.42 meters and a ‘bucket type’ design with 52 seats each. They are equipped with front and rear LED destination boards, pneumatic doors with sensors, tinted glasses, LED lights, and an emergency button. The buses are designed under the theme ‘Reconceptualising Travel’ and aim to provide enhanced comfort and safety for passengers.
The fare for the service remains unchanged, emphasizing affordability for frequent commuters between the two cities. Some of the buses will also operate on routes from Hunsur to Bengaluru and K.R. Nagar to Bengaluru. KSRTC plans to introduce 30 more electric buses on the Mysuru to Bengaluru route, supplementing the existing 14 buses.
The ‘Ashwamedha Classic’ buses are part of KSRTC’s efforts to improve its services and attract more passengers. KSRTC is one of the largest state-owned road transport corporations in India, operating over 8,000 buses across Karnataka and neighbouring states.
