Adani Green Energy Launches 1GW Solar Park in Gujarat

Adani Green Energy (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has announced the launch of its 1GW solar park in Khavda, Gujarat. The project is part of the world’s largest renewable energy park of 30GW planned by AGEL in the region.

What is the Khavda solar park?

The Khavda solar park is a mega-scale project that aims to generate clean and green electricity from solar energy. The project covers an area of 538 sq km, five times the size of Paris, and will use approximately 2.4 million solar modules. The project is expected to be completed in the next five years and will create over 15,200 green jobs.

The Khavda solar park is part of AGEL’s vision to achieve 45,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and contribute to India’s goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by the same year. The project will also help avoid 58 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to taking 12.6 million cars off the roads.

Why is the Khavda solar park important?

The Khavda solar park is a landmark achievement for AGEL and India’s renewable energy sector. It showcases AGEL’s expertise in developing large-scale renewable projects, leveraging its robust supply chain network and technological prowess. It also demonstrates AGEL’s commitment to supporting India’s clean energy transition and climate action.

The Khavda solar park will also benefit the local community and economy by creating employment opportunities, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting social welfare. AGEL has transformed the barren and challenging terrain of the Rann of Kutch into a habitable environment for its workforce and deployed innovative solutions to integrate sustainable practices. For instance, AGEL has committed to use waterless cleaning robots for the entire solar capacity to conserve water in the arid region.

How does the Khavda solar park compare with other solar parks in the world?

The Khavda solar park is one of the largest solar parks in the world and will surpass the current record holder, the Bhadla solar park in Rajasthan, which has a capacity of 2.25 GW. The Khavda solar park is also part of the world’s largest renewable energy park of 30 GW, which will dwarf any other existing or planned renewable energy installation in the world.

The Khavda solar park is a testament to AGEL’s leadership position in India and globally as a renewable energy developer. AGEL is ranked as the second largest solar PV developer in the world by Mercom Capital Group and has a total portfolio of 20,844 MW across India.
