Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone of eight urban development projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme in Solapur, Maharashtra. The projects, worth around Rs. 2,000 crores, aim to improve the water supply, sewerage and drainage systems in the city.
PM Modi also dedicated to the nation more than 90,000 houses completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in Maharashtra. He also distributed the first and second instalments to 10,000 beneficiaries of the PM Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANIDHI) scheme in the state.
AMRUT Projects
The AMRUT projects that PM Modi inaugurated include:
- Construction of 24×7 water supply system for Solapur city
- Construction of 40 MLD sewage treatment plant at Kumthe
- Construction of 40 MLD sewage treatment plant at Shelgi
- Construction of storm water drainage network in Solapur city
- Construction of elevated storage reservoirs at various locations in Solapur city
- Construction of water transmission mains from Ujani Dam to Solapur city
- Construction of jack well cum pump house at Ujani Dam
- Construction of intake well cum pump house at Ashti Dam
These projects are expected to benefit more than 10 lakh residents of Solapur by providing them with clean drinking water, improved sanitation and better drainage facilities.
PMAY-Urban Houses
PM Modi also dedicated to the nation more than 90,000 houses built under the PMAY-Urban scheme in Maharashtra. These houses are spread across 18 districts of the state and have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 4,500 crores.
PM Modi also inaugurated 15,000 houses of Raynagar Housing Society in Solapur, whose beneficiaries include thousands of handloom workers, vendors, power loom workers, rag pickers, bidi workers, drivers and others.
PM Modi said that his government is committed to providing pucca houses, toilets, electricity connections, water and other basic amenities to the poor as a guarantee of social justice.
PM-SVANIDHI Scheme
PM Modi also initiated the distribution of the first and second instalments to 10,000 beneficiaries of the PM-SVANIDHI scheme in Maharashtra. The scheme provides working capital loans of up to Rs. 10,000 to street vendors to resume their businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
PM Modi said that his government’s path is ‘dignity of labour’, ‘self-reliant worker’ and ‘welfare of the poor’. He said that the scheme has empowered more than 50 lakh street vendors across the country by providing them with financial assistance and digital payments facilities.
Ram Jyoti
PM Modi also addressed the gathering on the occasion of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya on January 22. He said that he is following the rules and regulations of the 11-day anushthan with utmost dedication and commitment under the guidance of saints and seers.
He expressed happiness that more than one lakh families of Maharashtra will light Ram Jyoti in their pucca homes on January 22 as a symbol of their devotion and inspiration to ward off the darkness of poverty.
He said that he is following the ideals of Lord Ram and ensuring good governance and honesty in the country.
