Air India & Tata Rs 2,300 Cr Investment in Karnataka

Two companies of the Tata Group – Air India and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) – have signed pacts with Karnataka government, totalling an investment of Rs 2,300 crore. The investment will also generate employment opportunities for 1,650 people.

Air India to set up MRO facility in Bengaluru

Air India has proposed to establish a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru at an investment of Rs 1,300 crore, making Bengaluru its MRO hub in south India. This would add 1,200 jobs.

The MRO facility will cater to the maintenance needs of Air India’s fleet of aircraft as well as other airlines operating in the region. The facility will have hangars, workshops, warehouses and other infrastructure to provide comprehensive services to the aviation sector.

The MRO facility will also help Air India reduce its operational costs and improve its efficiency. Air India currently operates MRO facilities in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Nagpur.

Tata Advanced Systems to invest in three projects

Tata Advanced Systems has planned three projects with an investment of Rs 1,030 crore. These projects include:

  • A helicopter manufacturing facility at Devanahalli Aerospace Park with an investment of Rs 500 crore and employment potential of 250 people.
  • A defence electronics manufacturing facility at Doddaballapur Industrial Area with an investment of Rs 300 crore and employment potential of 100 people.
  • An aerospace components manufacturing facility at Belagavi Aerospace Park with an investment of Rs 230 crore and employment potential of 100 people.

Tata Advanced Systems is a subsidiary of Tata Sons that provides integrated solutions for aerospace, defence and homeland security sectors. It has partnerships with global aerospace and defence majors such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Airbus and Sikorsky.

Karnataka government welcomes the investments

The MoUs were signed by senior executives of Air India and Tata Advanced Systems with top government officials in the presence of chief minister Siddaramaiah and industries minister MB Patil on Monday.

The chief minister said that Karnataka is a preferred destination for investments in aerospace and defence sectors due to its conducive policy environment, skilled manpower and robust infrastructure. He said that the state government is committed to provide all support and facilitation to the investors.

The industries minister said that the investments by Air India and Tata Advanced Systems will boost the growth of the aviation sector in Karnataka and create more job opportunities for the youth. He said that the state government is working to attract more investments in various sectors through proactive policies and initiatives.
