Avalon Technologies and C-DAC Collaborate for Indigenous HPC Servers ‘RUDRA

Strategic Partnership

On January 12, 2024, Avalon Technologies Limited, an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company, announced a strategic partnership with C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), a R&D organization of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This collaboration is set to boost India’s competency in the design, development, and delivery of multidisciplinary computing needs.

Indigenous Manufacturing

Kunhamed Bicha, Chairman & Managing Director of Avalon Technologies, expressed pride in the partnership, stating that Avalon will be a key partner in assisting with the manufacturing of RUDRA HPC servers. These servers are India’s first ever natively designed servers by C-DAC. Avalon has been working as a strategic design and manufacturing partner to C-DAC since 2021, delivering PCB design & analysis, Prototype PCB assemblies, Cables, and Sheet metal chassis.

National Supercomputing Mission

The RUDRA server is a part of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) supported by MeitY and DST. This mission aims at achieving self-reliance in Supercomputing, moving towards the Government of India’s National initiative of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The RUDRA server, which is secure and reliable, is based on the current generation of Intel Xeon scalable processor technology and supports accelerated computing. The Rudra server, developed with the Intel processor and pilot HPC system was launched last month, and Phase 3 systems are being planned more than 30 Petaflops.

Future Prospects

This collaboration between Avalon Technologies and C-DAC is of critical strategic and national importance. It not only demonstrates India’s competency in high-performance computing but also paves the way for future advancements in this field. The contract was signed in the presence of Alkesh Kumar Sharma, secretary of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY). The ‘Rudra’ HPC servers, designed by C-DAC, will be manufactured by Avalon under National Supercomputing Mission and are planned to be used in C-DAC’s ‘PARAM’ series of Supercomputers.

This strategy document lays out overall vision towards development and implementation strategies for a National Blockchain Platform covering the technology stack, legal and regulatory framework, standards development, collaboration, human resource development and potential use cases.
