Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a state-owned engineering firm, is significantly contributing to India’s journey towards self-reliance in energy and infrastructure, as well as playing a crucial role in the defense and space sectors. This was highlighted by Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey during the inauguration of the newly-constructed BHEL Sadan in Noida on BHEL Day.
The new 18-story, eco-friendly green building embodies BHEL’s commitment to environmental protection and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of achieving ‘net zero’ carbon emissions by 2070. Equipped with a 30-kW solar power system, the building is a testament to BHEL’s dedication to advancing green energy initiatives.
Minister Pandey underscored BHEL’s efforts in making India self-reliant not only in energy and infrastructure but also in the defense and space domains. He noted the significance of BHEL’s contributions to creating an Aatmanirbhar Bharat since its inception.
Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishna Pal Gurjar praised BHEL for its green energy efforts, particularly the signing of MoUs with Coal India and NLC India for commercial-sized coal gasification projects. The new building, with a seating capacity of over 2,000, is expected to enhance coordination and performance by consolidating Delhi-NCR based offices.
Heavy Industries Secretary Kamran Rizvi remarked that having its properties gives an organization confidence and motivation, with the new building representing BHEL’s illustrious history and stature. K Sadashiv Murthy, CMD of BHEL, expressed that the relocation of all company offices to the new building in Noida will improve work-life balance for employees residing in the area.
BHEL’s role extends to the defense sector, where it has contributed to India’s naval strength by supplying smart ammunition and cannons to the Indian Navy. BHEL’s involvement in the electrification of Vande Bharat sleeper class trains for Indian Railways and its participation in the nation’s first Coal to Methanol (CTM) pilot plant further exemplify its diverse contributions.
Additionally, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has sanctioned 27 projects worth Rs 909 crore under the Scheme for Enhancing Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector Phase-I, reflecting the government’s commitment to bolstering the manufacturing sector and creating new employment opportunities.
In summary, BHEL’s initiatives in energy independence, green transition, and contributions to the defense and space sectors are integral to India’s pursuit of self-reliance and sustainable development.
