Flipkart, India’s leading e-commerce platform, has announced that it will soon offer same-day delivery service in 20 cities across the country. The service will start rolling out in February and will cover a wide range of products, including mobiles, fashion, beauty, lifestyle, books, home appliances and electronics.
The same-day delivery service will be available in cities including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Patna, Raipur, Siliguri and Vijayawada. Customers will need to place their orders by 1 pm to get their items delivered before 12 am (midnight). Orders placed after 1 pm will be delivered the next day.
Flipkart said that the service will be scaled out over several months to reach more customers until it is available across India. The company said that it is working towards delivering a wide range of products to customers with speed and convenience.
Flipkart’s move comes at a time when the e-retail market in India is expected to reach over $160 billion by 2028, as per a Bain-Flipkart report. The report also estimated that India’s annual transacting e-retail shopper base hit 230-250 million people in 2023.
Flipkart’s same-day delivery service will compete with other quick commerce platforms such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto, which offer delivery within 10-15 minutes in select cities. Amazon, Flipkart’s main rival in India, also offers same-day delivery for its Prime members and non-Prime users at an additional fee.
Flipkart’s spokesperson said that the company is constantly innovating to provide the best shopping experience for its customers. “We are excited to launch our same-day delivery service in 20 cities and look forward to expanding it to more regions soon,” the spokesperson said.
