MeitY Empowers Paras Defense with SMART Tech: Boost for Digital India

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has successfully transferred the Smart Food Grain Storage System (SAFEETY) technology to M/s Paras Defense and Space Technology Ltd, a leading defense and space company in India. The technology transfer took place during the launch event of the “Digital India FutureLABS Summit 2024” held at IIIT-Delhi on February 5, 2024.

What is SAFEETY?

SAFEETY is a smart and efficient system for storing food grains in warehouses. It consists of conveyorized loading and unloading of grain bags having RFID for traceability, online weight and moisture measurement with radio frequency based removal of moisture from grain. The system can handle almost one truckload (approx. weight: 28 tons) of grains in 40 minutes.

It can also contribute to the Digital India vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

Who are the stakeholders?

The technology for SAFEETY has been developed by SAMEER, an autonomous R&D institute under MeitY, with support from the Department of Food and Public Distribution. The technology has been transferred to Paras Defense, a company that specializes in defense and space technologies, for manufacturing and supply of the systems. The exchange of technology transfer documents was made in the presence of Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar; Smt Sunita Verma, GC R&D in E⁢ Dr P. Rao, DG-SAMEER; Shri Rajesh Harsh, CI, SAMEER, Mumbai; Dr Om Krishan Singh, Scientist ‘D’, MeitY; Shri Amit Mahajan, Director Paras Defense and Space Technologies Ltd and the senior officials in Government.

What are the benefits?

The SMART food grain storage system technology is expected to bring multiple benefits to the stakeholders involved. For MeitY, it is an opportunity to showcase its R&D capabilities and promote innovation culture in India. For Paras Defense, it is a chance to diversify its product portfolio and tap into new markets. For the farmers and consumers, it is a boon to ensure food security and quality. And for the nation, it is a boost for digital transformation and self-reliance.
