Power Grid Corporation Sanctions Rs 656 Cr Investments

State-owned Power Grid Corporation on Monday said its board has approved an investment worth about Rs 656 crore for implementation of electricity transmission projects in the country. The company said in a BSE filing that the board of directors and the committee of directors on investment on projects have accorded investment approvals in their respective meetings held on 18th February, 2024.

Details of Power Grid Corporation Projects

According to the filing, the board of directors approved implementation of Unified Load Dispatch and Communication (ULDC) Phase-III (SCADA/EMS Upgradation Project -Northern Region SLDCs at an estimated cost of Rs 514.66 crore with commissioning schedule of November 15, 2025.

The ULDC project aims to enhance the reliability, security and efficiency of the power system operation and management in the northern region by upgrading the existing supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and energy management system (EMS) at state load dispatch centres (SLDCs).

The committee of directors on investment on projects approved augmentation of 765/400 kV, 1500 MVA transformer (4th) at Bhiwani at an estimated cost of Rs 141.09 crore, scheduled to be commissioned by May 5, 2025.

The augmentation project will increase the transformation capacity at Bhiwani substation, which is a strategic node for power evacuation from solar energy zones in Rajasthan.

Significance of the Investments

The investments approved by Power Grid Corporation are part of its efforts to strengthen the national grid and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources. The company is also implementing several inter-regional and intra-regional transmission schemes to enhance the power transfer capacity across the country.

Power Grid Corporation is a Maharatna company that operates about 1.68 lakh circuit kilometres of transmission lines along with 252 substations and more than 4.32 lakh MVA of transformation capacity. The company also provides consultancy services in India and abroad in the areas of power transmission, distribution, smart grid, etc.
