Rozgar Mela: PM Distributes 1 Lakh Appointments

Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 1 lakh appointment letters to newly inducted recruits in various government departments and organisations under Rozgar Mela on February 12th, 2024. He also laid the foundation stone of Phase I of the Integrated Complex “Karmayogi Bhavan” in New Delhi. He said that the recruitment process has become completely transparent and fair, and that the government is committed to provide employment opportunities to the youth.

Highlights of Rozgar Mela

  • The Rozgar Mela was held at 47 locations across the country, with the Prime Minister addressing the event via video conferencing.
  • The new recruits will be joining the government in various ministries and departments such as Revenue, Home Affairs, Higher Education, Atomic Energy, Defence, Financial Services, Health and Family Welfare, Tribal Affairs and Railways.
  • The Prime Minister congratulated them and their families, and urged them to train themselves through Karmayogi Prarambh, an online module on iGOT Karmayogi portal where more than 880 e-learning courses are available.

Employment Generation Under Modi Government

  • The Prime Minister said that the Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilling his commitment to accord highest priority to employment generation in the country.
  • He said that since 2014, the government has given 1.5 times more jobs than the previous dispensation did in the same duration.
  • He also cited some data to support his claim. According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the unemployment rate in India declined from 6.1% in 2017-18 to 5.8% in 2018-19 and further to 4.8% in 2019-20. The labour force participation rate (LFPR) also increased from 36.9% in 2017-18 to 37.5% in 2019-20.
  • He also mentioned some of the initiatives taken by the government to boost employment and self-employment, such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana (PMRPY), Startup India, Standup India and Atal Innovation Mission.

Transformation of Indian Railways and Connectivity

  • The Prime Minister also spoke about the transformation of Indian Railways by the end of this decade, and the impact of good connectivity on the development of the country.
  • He said that the government is investing Rs. 12 lakh crore in modernising and expanding the rail network, which will create lakhs of jobs and boost economic growth.
  • He said that the government is also working on connecting every corner of the country with high-speed trains, metro trains, regional rapid transit system (RRTS) and dedicated freight corridors.
  • He said that good connectivity has a direct impact on the development of the country, as it reduces travel time, enhances mobility, improves accessibility and facilitates trade and commerce.

Reforms in Selection Process of Paramilitary Forces

  • The Prime Minister also highlighted the reforms in the selection process of paramilitary forces, which will ensure equal opportunity to youth from every region.
  • He said that the government has introduced a common eligibility test (CET) for recruitment in central armed police forces (CAPFs), which will be conducted by the National Recruitment Agency (NRA).
  • He said that the CET will be held twice a year in multiple languages across multiple centres, which will reduce cost and hassle for candidates and increase transparency and efficiency.
  • He said that the government has also increased the representation of women in paramilitary forces from 5% to 15%, which will empower them and enhance their role in national security.
