Sanmit Infra Ltd, a leading company engaged in construction of real estate projects, supply of petroleum products and biomedical waste management, has announced its plan to set up a Bio CNG plant under the Sustainable Alternative towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme.
What is SATAT scheme?
SATAT is an initiative by the government of India with the objective of setting up Compressed Biogas (CBG) production plants, and making it available for market its commercial use for automotive, which will reduce the pollution level substantially. It will also boost the entrepreneurship, rural economy and employment.
What are the benefits of Bio CNG?
Bio CNG is a renewable and clean fuel that can be produced from various sources of organic waste such as agricultural residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, sewage treatment plant waste, etc. Bio CNG has several advantages over conventional fuels such as:
- It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by preventing methane release from waste decomposition.
- It enhances energy security by reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.
- It supports the Swachh Bharat Mission by promoting waste management and sanitation.

What are the details of Sanmit Infra Ltd’s proposal?
According to a press release by the company, the board of directors has considered and approved the proposal for setting up a Bio CNG plant under SATAT scheme in its meeting held on November 11, 2023. The company has not disclosed the exact location of the proposed plant yet, but it has said that it will be in Maharashtra state. The company has also not revealed the capacity or investment details of the proposed plant yet. However, it has stated that it will support the national commitments in achieving climate change goals and reduction in import of natural gas and crude oil and saving a lot of foreign exchange. The company also said that it will stand as a buffer against crude oil/gas price fluctuations in the international market making the country self-sufficient.
Sanmit Infra Ltd is already involved in biomedical waste management through its subsidiary Sanmit Bio Medical Waste Management Pvt Ltd, which operates a common biomedical waste treatment facility in Mumbai. The company claims that it is taking a step towards safeguarding the environment and the ecosystem by eliminating the spread of hazardous infection from the healthy lives and families during transportation of this biomedical waste from general public.
The company is also engaged in construction of real estate projects such as residential, commercial and industrial buildings. It also supplies petroleum products such as high speed diesel, furnace oil, light diesel oil, etc. to various industries.
