The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in India has taken a significant step forward by developing a gap-analyser tool. This tool is designed to facilitate a detailed one-on-one mapping of skill training centers in proximity to key infrastructure projects. The primary objective of this initiative is to accurately identify the indicative needs for skilling across various regions.
This innovative approach utilizes data from the PM Gati Shakti portal. Gati Shakti is a dynamic program aimed at enhancing multimodal infrastructure and logistics efficiency across the country. By leveraging the comprehensive data available on this platform, the MSDE aims to streamline and optimize the process of skill development and training. The integration of Gati Shakti data will enable the ministry to make informed decisions about where and what type of training centers are most needed, based on the infrastructure projects planned or underway.
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of data-driven training and capacity building for the wider adoption of PM Gati Shakti principles. He highlighted the program’s role in project prioritization, optimization, and evidence-based decision-making, which are crucial for enhancing ease of living and ease of doing business. The focus is on transforming the approach towards infrastructure project planning, ensuring effective and integrated resource management, and ultimately aiding people-centric development.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to build capacities for developing spatial transformation plans and predictive plans using advanced technologies like AI and Blockchain. The plan includes converting existing courses into digital formats and establishing induction labs for simulation-based learning. This holistic approach signifies a transformative step in skill development, aligning with the national objective of efficient infrastructure development and the creation of a skilled workforce ready to meet the future demands of a rapidly evolving economy.
