Uber, the global ride-hailing app, has launched its operations in Jammu & Kashmir, starting with the capital city of Srinagar. The company will offer its popular UberGo and Intercity services to the residents and tourists of the valley.
UberGo is a low-cost option that provides reliable and convenient rides within the city. Intercity is a trusted outstation product that allows riders to book trips to nearby tourist destinations, such as Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam. Riders can also book return journeys lasting up to five days, where they can retain their Uber and the driver, adding stops as they go.
Uber’s launch in Srinagar is in line with its expansion plans in India, with an aim to increase its footprint and product offerings to regional markets. The company said in a statement that it is committed to offering convenient, affordable, and safe mobility options to more and more riders across the country.
“With the global ride-hailing app now available in Srinagar, tourists as well as locals will now find a trusted ride in and around Srinagar with a few taps on the app. The launch of our service will also create meaningful earning opportunities for drivers and will support the economic growth of local communities,” said Shiva Shailendran, Head of Supply and Regional Operations at Uber.
Uber has also partnered with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to provide seamless airport transfers for travellers arriving at or departing from Srinagar International Airport. Riders can book their Uber rides up to 90 days in advance, helping them plan their travel better.
Uber entered India in 2013 and now has services available across 125 cities in the country. It competes with homegrown rival Ola, which also commenced its operations in Kashmir last month.
