Class 1-8 Students to Get Free Sweaters, Bags by UP Govt

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a budget allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for providing free sweaters, shoes, socks and bags to over 2 crore students of classes 1 to 8 in government schools. The scheme aims to encourage education and improve the infrastructure of primary schools in the state.

According to Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, who presented the state budget for 2024-25 on Monday, the government will directly transfer Rs 1,200 per student to the bank accounts of parents through DBT. The parents can then use the money to purchase the required items for their children.

The minister also said that the government has proposed Rs 1,000 crore for Operation Kayakalp, which is an initiative to transform the primary schools with digital libraries, smart classes and labs. He added that the government has created 144 posts for operating 36 primary schools in Vantangiya villages, which are inhabited by forest dwellers.

The budget also includes provisions for free uniforms, stationery, hostels and mini stadiums for students from disadvantaged groups and economically weaker sections. Moreover, the government plans to establish three new state universities in Vindhyaachal Dham, Moradabad and Devi Patan divisions.

The UP Free School Uniform Scheme is a part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education and increase the enrollment of students in government schools. The scheme is expected to benefit around 2 crore students across the state.
