Vaan’s E-biking Vision: Changing India’s Travel

Vaan Electric Moto is an Indian lifestyle e-mobility startup that aims to revolutionize transportation with e-bikes. Founded in 2019 by Jithu Sukumaran Nair, a marine engineer and shipbuilder, Vaan has partnered with Benelli Biciclette, Keeway Group, to offer a range of e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, e-boats and apparel. Vaan launched its brand globally at the EICMA motorcycle show in Italy in November 2021 and in India in January 2022.

Why e-bikes?

E-bikes are electric bicycles that have a battery-powered motor that assists the rider’s pedaling. E-bikes offer many benefits over conventional bicycles, such as:

  • They are faster, easier and more fun to ride, especially on hilly terrains or long distances.
  • They are eco-friendly, as they reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
  • They are cost-effective, as they save on fuel and maintenance expenses.
  • They are healthy, as they encourage physical activity and improve cardiovascular fitness.
  • They are versatile, as they can be used for commuting, leisure, tourism or delivery.

Vaan’s products

Vaan offers two variants of e-bikes: Urbansport and Urbansport Pro. Both models have a sleek and modern design, a lightweight aluminum frame, a removable lithium-ion battery, a digital display, hydraulic disc brakes and LED lights. The Urbansport has a 250W motor, a 36V 10Ah battery, a top speed of 25 km/h and a range of 60 km. The Urbansport Pro has a 350W motor, a 36V 13Ah battery, a top speed of 32 km/h and a range of 80 km. The e-bikes are priced at Rs 59,999 and Rs 69,999 respectively and come with a one-year warranty.

Vaan also plans to launch e-scooters, e-mopeds and e-boats in the near future. These products will have similar features as the e-bikes but with different specifications and prices. Vaan also sells apparel such as helmets, jackets, gloves and backpacks that complement its e-mobility products.

Vaan’s vision

Vaan’s vision is to create a community of e-bikers who share the passion for adventure, exploration and sustainability. Vaan believes that e-biking is not just a mode of transportation but a lifestyle choice that reflects one’s personality and values. Vaan also sees huge potential in e-bike tourism, as it allows travelers to experience the local culture, nature and heritage in an immersive and eco-friendly way.

Vaan is currently raising USD 15 million for product expansion, hiring and in-house manufacturing to be more competitive and sustainable with export markets. Vaan aims to become a global leader in the e-mobility sector and change the way India travels.
