Yamaha RX100 New Version Reportedly Coming to India

Yamaha RX100 is one of the most iconic motorcycles in India, known for its sleek design, powerful performance and distinctive sound. The bike was discontinued in 1996, but it still has a loyal fan base among enthusiasts. Now, there are reports that Yamaha is planning to bring back the RX100 in a new avatar, with a bigger and more efficient engine.

What’s new in the Yamaha RX100?

According to a report by Hindustan Times Auto, the new version of the Yamaha RX100 will have a 225.9 cc four-stroke engine, which will produce 20.1 bhp of power and 19.93 Nm of torque. This is a significant upgrade from the original 98.2 cc two-stroke engine, which delivered 11 PS of power and 10.39 Nm of torque.

The new engine will also comply with the BS6 Phase 2 emission norms, which are expected to come into effect in 2024. The report also claims that the new bike will retain some of the signature styling elements of the RX100, such as the round headlamp, the flat seat and the chrome exhaust.

The report cites unnamed sources who claim that Yamaha is working on a high-performance yet lightweight iteration of the motorcycle, which will aim to recreate the appeal of the original RX100. The sources also say that Yamaha wants to strike a balance between affordability and premium experience, which is why it has decided to price the bike between Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

When will the Yamaha RX100 launch in India?

The report does not mention any specific launch date for the new Yamaha RX100, but it suggests that it could happen sometime in 2024. The bike is expected to be launched as a limited edition model, which will cater to the nostalgic fans of the RX100.

However, Yamaha has not officially confirmed or denied any of these details, so we will have to wait for an official announcement from the company. Yamaha India President Ishin Chihana had hinted at the possibility of bringing back the RX100 in 2022, but he did not reveal any concrete plans or timelines.

Why it is so popular in India?

The Yamaha RX100 was launched in India in 1985, and it quickly became a hit among young riders who wanted a fast and fun bike. The bike had a lightweight body, a responsive engine and a smooth gearbox, which made it easy to handle and maneuver. The bike also had a distinctive sound, which added to its appeal.

The Yamaha RX100 was also known for its reliability and durability, as it could withstand rough roads and harsh conditions. The bike was also easy to maintain and modify, which made it popular among customizers and racers. The bike was discontinued in 1996, but it still has a cult following among collectors and enthusiasts.

Many people still own and ride the old RX100s, which are often seen on roads and rallies. Some people also restore and modify their RX100s, giving them a new look and feel. The bike has also inspired many other models from Yamaha and other brands, such as the YZF-R15 and the Bajaj Pulsar.
