Zomato’s Pledge for 2030: Bolstering 3 Lakh Micro, Small, Medium Restaurant Businesses

Zomato, one of the leading restaurant discovery and food ordering platforms in India, has announced its sustainability goals for 2030. The company has outlined eight themes around which it aims to achieve specific and measurable targets in the next decade.

Reducing food waste

Zomato said it will help the restaurants in reducing food waste through training and collaborations. The company will also enable its customers to donate their excess food to the needy through its Feeding India initiative. Zomato aims to feed 100 million people every month by 2030.

Promoting inclusive growth

Zomato said it will ensure that its platform is accessible and affordable for all segments of society. The company will also support the growth of local cuisines and regional food entrepreneurs. Zomato aims to have 50% of its orders from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by 2030.

Achieving diversity representation

Zomato said it will foster a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion within its organisation and among its partners. The company will also promote gender parity and empower women in the food industry. Zomato aims to have 50% of its leadership team and 40% of its workforce as women by 2030.

Enhancing gig worker livelihoods

Zomato said it will enhance the earning and saving capacity of 1 million gig workers through upskilling, partnerships and benefit programs. The company will also ensure the safety and well-being of its delivery partners and their families. Zomato aims to have zero fatalities and injuries among its delivery partners by 2030.

Supporting restaurant businesses

Zomato said it will support the growth of 3 lakh micro, small and medium restaurant businesses and food entrepreneurs by providing them with access to capital, technology, marketing and training. The company will also help them improve their quality standards and customer satisfaction. Zomato aims to have 80% of its restaurant partners rated above 4 stars by 2030.

Delivering plastic neutral orders

Zomato said it will facilitate 100% of its deliveries to be plastic neutral by eliminating single-use plastics from its packaging and supply chain. The company will also encourage its customers and partners to adopt eco-friendly alternatives. Zomato aims to offset 100% of its plastic footprint by 2030.

Delivering via electric vehicles

Zomato said it will facilitate 100% of its deliveries to be done through electric vehicles by transitioning its fleet and incentivising its delivery partners. The company will also partner with EV manufacturers, charging stations and policy makers to create a conducive ecosystem for EV adoption. Zomato aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 80% by 2030.

Measuring impact

Zomato said it will measure and report its progress on its sustainability goals on a regular basis. The company will also engage with its stakeholders and experts to seek feedback and guidance. Zomato aims to be transparent and accountable for its social and environmental impact by 2030.
