Connecting the Himalayas: Massive Investment in Ladakh Infrastructure with Rs 1,170 Crore Push

In a significant move to enhance road connectivity and infrastructural development in Ladakh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari has announced the sanctioning of Rs 1,170.16 crore for the construction of 29 road projects in the Union Territory. This substantial allocation encompasses the development of state highways, major, and other district roads, marking a pivotal step towards improving accessibility in the region.

Additionally, the minister allocated a further Rs 181.71 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme for the fiscal year 2023-24, specifically designated for the construction of 8 bridges. This investment is expected to play a crucial role in connecting remote villages of Ladakh, thereby enhancing the overall connectivity within the Union Territory.

Ladakh, known for being the largest Union Territory in terms of area and the second least populous in India, is poised to witness significant improvements in its road network. These enhancements are anticipated to stimulate economic activities, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and tourism, contributing to the overall infrastructural development of the region. The initiatives are part of the government’s broader vision to improve infrastructure and connectivity across the country, especially in remote and strategically important areas like Ladakh.

The sanctioning of these projects is in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to bolster infrastructural development across India, ensuring that even the most remote regions are integrated into the broader economic framework of the nation.
