Micron and NAMTECH Collaborate to Boost India’s Semiconductor Packaging Industry with Talent Development

Micron Technology, Inc, one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies, and the New Age Makers Institute of Technology (NAMTECH), an ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India education initiative, have announced a partnership to develop a world-class talent pipeline for India’s semiconductor packaging industry. The partnership is aligned with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) for capacity development, which aims to create a robust, self-sufficient semiconductor assembly and test ecosystem to enable India’s emergence as a global hub for electronics manufacturing and design.

Experiential Education and Training Programs

The partnership will include experiential education and training programs focused on cultivating a highly proficient, globally competitive pool of talent with diverse and sustainable engineering career paths. The programs will cover various aspects of semiconductor packaging, such as design, fabrication, testing, reliability, and quality. The programs will also leverage Micron’s expertise in developing industry-leading manufacturing operations and the people that lead them.

Incubation Hub with Cutting-edge Equipment

Micron and NAMTECH will collaborate to establish an incubation hub that gives students immersive and empirical learning experiences with cutting-edge equipment. The hub will include industry-grade semiconductor assembly and test laboratories, clean rooms, and other peripheral infrastructure required to simulate real-world scenarios. The hub will also serve as a platform for innovation and research in the field of semiconductor packaging.

Projected Growth of India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry

India’s semiconductor manufacturing industry is projected to quadruple to a capitalisation of USD 110 billion by 2030, driven by the increasing demand for electronics products and the government’s initiatives to boost the sector. The partnership between Micron and NAMTECH is expected to contribute to this growth by creating a pipeline of skilled talent that can meet the industry’s requirements and standards. The partnership is also expected to enhance India’s technological prowess and competitiveness in the global semiconductor landscape.
